Mechanus is a jungle world considered by the Mechanoids as their homeworld.
During a time when humanity began to spread out across the galaxy, the Mechanoids were sent to this jungle planet to prepare it for human colonization. However, the colonists did not arrive due to the Earth engaging in an interplanetary war with another race.
The Mechanoids continued to wait for the colonists when the human Steven Taylor crashlanded on the planet. Because he did not have the Mechanoid control codes, he was taken prisoner by them.
Following the Doctor's TARDIS, Daleks arrived on the planet, looking to conqure it. They engaged the Mechanoids in battle and were defeated.
