Reign of Terror was the tenth episode (out of 30) produced and released for The Time Tunnel.

Summary[]

After being time-shifted from Devil's Island from the previous episode, Doug Phillips and Tony Newman end up in Paris during the French Revolution. Phillips immediately gets arrested and is headed for the guillotine. When Newman is told by a shopkeeper of Phillips’ fate, as innocent people being arrested is common, and Newman sees it is Phillips being taken away, he rescues Phillips. The shopkeeper assists them but ends up getting arrested in turn.

Also, the French Queen Marie Antoinette has been under arrest, which the shopkeeper wishes to try to help her escape. In return of Newman and Phillips helping him out, he will use some contacts to help forge papers so Newman and Phillips can escape the city.

Background information/trivia[]

  • Whit Bissell doubles as two roles in this episode, with his regular role as Lt. Gen. Heywood Kirk and as an ancestor of his. Kirk's ancestor is brought to the future to Project Tic-Toc in order to try to buy Newman and Phillips some time.
  • A new technique is tried in order to help Newman and Phillips, which a ring of Kirk’s is sent to them which would enable the crew of Project Tic-Toc to get a better lock on the two scientists in hope of bringing them back home. Unfortunately Kirk’s ancestor gets a hold of the ring, since he looks so much like Kirk that Newman and Phillips call out to him and give away their position by mistake, giving him the ring.
  • At the very end of the episode, after Newman and Phillips are time shifted to somewhere in Russia, the above technique is tried again, as some kind of glowing object is sent to them twice, which they figured the objects were sent from Project Tic-Toc.
